ACCOMMODATION FOR RYDER CUP 2011

It was so Hades hot this weekend in Portland, like 102 hot with the heat of the day hitting at 5PM (one of the strange things about this place), that we couldn't take it anymore and checked ourselves into a hotel downtown.

Unfortunately, the cheesy and cheaper hotels by the convention center, three minutes from where we live, were all booked up. So we stayed at the Hotel Monaco in the city.

Five minutes away.

The Hotel Monaco offered robes that were the opposite of sexy, as I think they intended-or maybe they were going for whimsy-and leopard print boxer shorts and lady's negligee for sale in the closet. Along with a $20 umbrella. It was a lovely combination, really.

I stayed up and watched a movie only intended for hotel room viewing: Made Of Honor.

I don't recommend it. I know. You're shocked.

I would recommend this hotel above the other 2 (King Solomon & the other one in the center of town). It's 20% cheaper, offers more services and the service is 100% better. The chinese owner is a real workhorse though - the staff don't get a minutes rest.
